About Our Founder
Gerry White is the CEO of Eyes On The Prize Tutoring. Mr. White graduated from Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. Since developing a keen interest and passion for science and mathematics at a young age, Gerry achieved early distinction when he was admitted to the highly coveted and selective Hillcrest High School Pre-Med program. This accomplishment allowed him to further pursue his ambition as he enrolled in advanced courses in Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Histology, Medical Laboratory Techniques, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, Medical Illustrations, amongst other rigorous subjects. This exposure created a strong educational foundation that allowed him to acquire a full year worth of college credit while achieving impressive full-scores on his advanced placement chemistry and calculus exams. Mr. White was equipped with the credentials and accolades to gain admittance to every college he applied to - including the highly prestigious Binghamton University which awarded him with the George E. Moore scholarship in pursuit of his physics degree. As an undergraduate, Mr. White also applied and was awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) fellowship to participate in engineering research at Lehigh University, one of the leading civil engineering programs in the country, under the guidance of Dr. Wesley Smith. During his time at Binghamton, Mr. White demonstrated continued commitment to S.T.E.M. education and commitment to service through his (unpaid) roles as an undergraduate physics teaching assistant and as a mentor for the Junior Upstate Mentoring Program (J.U.M.P. Nation) with the mission of inspiring underrepresented elementary school students from New York City to appreciate the joy in the process of learning and to aspire to higher education.
Mr. White's desire to help others led him to naturally pursue his Masters of Science in Secondary Education at Queens College in NYC while developing his skills as a teacher in NYC and LI public school districts. His teaching experience developed his communication skills. Seeking greater academic challenge and drawing upon his underlying S.T.E.M. education, Mr. White then pursued positions as an actuarial analyst within some of the most prestigious insurance and consulting firms in the world successfully being offered position at each of them, further demonstrating the versatility of S.T.E.M. education in creating diverse options. After a fourteen year career in the insurance industry, Mr. White then made a conscious decision to abandon his six digit salary to return to the teaching arena where the pay was very modest but the experience most rewarding with the opportunity to positively impact the lives of so many while simultaneously pursuing his entrepreneurial passion. Once again, the value of his early S.T.E.M. education proved invaluable. These significant life-shaping experiences and qualifications and his conscious dedication to service have ben crucial towards developing his mission for Eyes On The Prize where he hopes to ingrain essential S.T.E.M. education and provide educational opportunities for families embracing excellence and providing any necessary support in order to propel and enrich the leaders of our next generation.
